Meet & Greet with the Primes and Subs
On January 11, 2011 the SFMTA in concert with the Central Subway team hosted the Prime/Small Business Enterprise (SBE) Meet and Greet Event for the construction and specialized service contractors at the San Francisco Hilton Hotel (Financial District). The purpose of this event was to provide an opportunity for subcontractors to meet and speak with the prime contractors that will be potential candidates for bidding on the upcoming contract for tunneling that will be released in February. This contract will be the largest amongst the offerings for this project at roughly $195 million in bid potential.
Presentations were given regarding the overview of the project, the tunneling contract itself and the Small Business Enterprise Program. With such a large contract there will be many opportunities for local SBEs to subcontract with the primes. This event created a networking opportunity with the various prime companies that lead to discussion of the specialties needed with the tunneling contract.
The prime and SBE turnout was especially encouraging for the Central Subway team, that also had a table at the event. With 17 prime contractors and over 200 subcontractors registered, we are excited to see what type of ventures will develop from this event and the potential jobs that will be created by the subcontracting opportunities.
